York University – A Catalyst For Change

York University is a leading international teaching and research university. Founded in 1960, the institution is now one of the largest in the world, enrolling almost 56,000 students from 178 countries. Its programs are widely recognized in science and business. Located in Markham, Ontario, the university is a catalyst for change.

The University of York offers several special events and activities to its students. For instance, the Winter Commencement ceremony was held on December 15 at the Bartholomew Performing Arts Center. Students can participate in over 150 clubs and societies and over 180 volunteering programs. One of the most notable student groups is the University of York Music Society in Toronto, ON.

York’s performing arts department encourages creative activity. The university also has a film society, the York Student Cinema. The movie house uses a professional 35 mm projector, showing 30 films per term. Additionally, the Central Hall Musical Society performs several shows each year. Students can also join the New Generation Society, a debating society. The school has various athletic facilities, including an ice arena and 29 inter-university sports teams. York has a dedicated Careers Service. It advertises internships and work experience opportunities. The staff is also happy to advise students to consider returning to their hometowns after graduation.

York is a member of the Green group, a university-based organization that works to improve the environment. The university is home to several environmental organizations, such as Regenesis, which runs a community bike centre and farmers’ market inToronto, Ontario area. They have also launched some campaigns to address local and global environmental issues. York is home to an active party political society, the University of York Liberal Democrat Association. Members of the House of Lords and the United Kingdom Parliament are among the university’s alums. Another prominent York alumni are Steven Glenwood MacLean, a Canadian astronaut. Other notable graduates include Anibal Cavaco Silva, a doctorate in economics, and Mahmoud Mohieldin, a master’s degree.
